Casio fx-CG20 or Casio fx-9750GIII ?
Casio fx-CG20 or Casio fx-9750GIII ?
Hello
I'm about to buy my first calculator and I am going for something used and cheap, around $25. (here where I am, it's considered not a little money )
Both calculators look fantastic, it basically boils down to:
- Casio fx-9750GIII vs Casio fx-CG20
- Battery life ca. 200hr vs 140hr
- Micropython yes/no
- Fast b/w graphing vs slower graphing due to larger ammount of pixels, but color display
- Nice b/w display that gives it traditional calculator feel vs modern lcd that's a bit washed out
- 3MB internal storage vs 16MB
- 63000 bytes vs 61000 bytes of ram
- 2022 (which means more updates / new software coming out) vs 2011
My use-case will be at home, I like using calculators more than my phone, though Wolfram alpha is pretty nice. I'm teaching myself higher math, so I figured it would be nice to have. I will also be putting khiCAS on it. Generally, just want a calculator to enjoy it, it will probably never see an exam.
That's about it. Which one out of those two, or some other calculators would you people reccomend? Thank you
P.S. I posted this in two places on the internet, sorry if you see it double.

Assuming your are lucky enough, for 25 bucks you can maybe find a fx-CG50 at a used stuff reseller and that would be the perfect deal ... Look at Ebay. Here in Europe, we can find some from times to times at very low price. Of course it depends on where you are living.
Even if not the last gen, fx-CG20 is very good for sure. The high resolution color screen is really nice.
Some works in progress :
The GUI Toolkit NF for nSpire | MyShmup for fxCG-50 | Magic Light for Casio Graph 90+E and Magic Light for nSpire CX/CX-II | Simple Text Editor for nSpire | OutRun for Casio Graph 90+E |
And more to come ... stay tuned

I agree with @SlyVTT advice. A second hand fx-CG50 (with khicas installed on it), would be a really good choice.

I agree with you guys, sadly they all go for like, at least €45 + ca. €8 shipping. I've noticed CG20 and 7950III's can be had for about €15-20 + €8 so that's a bit better. And yep, I'm hunting on Ebay.

That's the RAM available for storage. The BW Casio real amount of RAM is 512k, for example inside KhiCAS you have access to 180K. For the FXCG20 it's more, but I'm unsure, it's less than the FXCG50. I find the keyboard of the BW Casio better than the color Graph 90, I don't know for the FXCG20. The battery life is significantly longer on the BW, for example if you don't use the calc keeping batteries inside. If that's important for you, I would suggest to go for the BW model, otherwise to select the color model.

Considering the price for the fx-7950GIII, clearly this is a wonderful deal.
I tend to agree with Parisse on the keyboard, the BW one is "stiffer" and pressing a button appears to be more "safe", there are less non-volontary pressing action on the BW than on the CG50. But on the other hand, CG50 has a large keyboard, not that much bigger, but for people with big fingers (like me ) it is quite interesting. So as you can rad, as usual there is no absolute truth. And that also a question of habits.
Maybe can you buy the BW as it is a good deal and in few months, if you get bored with it, you can resell it and switch to a color one.

Whoah! Just got an offer for fx-CG10 (it's basically a CG20 that can't display pictures) for $32.5 total!!
Maybe it would be better to go for this instead of 9750GIII? Aaaaaaaaa oh my god I can't decide now. This is what I was fearing. I managed to find both for about the similar price, now I need to pick which one I want.
Here are pictures of both: https://imgur.com/a/e0InvA3
They both seem fine and damage free, right?
I'll go for CG10! Much better community support
