Is it possible to update to CX-II OS 5.0 from CX OS 4.5?

Unread postby Phorphora » 12 Jun 2019, 22:02

Is it possible to get the new features of the Npsire CX-II on the previous generation?
I know that is possible to install the CAS version of the OS in the non-CAS version of the Nspire CX, but how about the CAS OS of the CX-II on the normal CX?
If not yet, how probably it will be in the future?

No, it isn't possible for now.

I won't say it's impossible, but I'm sorry it's very unlikely. The CX II ASIC is quite different, so the CX II OS is not going to run properly on the CX hardware, at least not without huge patches.

Is it possible to get the new features of the Npsire CX-II on the previous generation?

Nope - unless TI backports them, which they could totally do since the Nspire CX "I"'s CPU isn't a real blocker and the CX II has neither more RAM, nor more Flash than the CX "I", but they probably don't want to do that, for most new features...

I know that is possible to install the CAS version of the OS in the non-CAS version of the Nspire CX, but how about the CAS OS of the CX-II on the normal CX?

That's not possible, there are major differences between the CX I and the CX II hardware.

If not yet, how probably it will be in the future?

Unlikely, per the above. Trying to run the CX II OS on another model would require major patching work, probably worse than running a CAS OS on the same type of Nspire calculators sold as non-CAS.

In short, no :(
Hardware of the two models is different.
Best,

Hisham :)

I was trying to get this to work, but when I realized that the old NAND driver is not even present I gave up completely.

Maybe they took a clue from your patching work ^^
