Bricked TI-Nspire CX (black screen)

Unread postby Python_Fan » 24 Oct 2018, 15:11

Hello,
I'm new here, my english isn't very good, so please don't be strict with eventual mistakes I make.

I'm a noob, so I need more detailed help and stuff ???
The only thing I know that I need this USB to TTL cable.... or I'm wrong?

After trying to change OS of my CX (used this tutorial: https://www.reddit.com/r/nspire/comment ... _works_on/ ),
I can't turn my calculator on, now I have a black screen.

Everything worked well until Step D 17.
My calculator showed me boot=Boot2 Diags, tried to change it to boot=Diags Boot2, but it didn't work.
After that i tried random stuff to install ControlX, but this didn't work either.
So I jumped to Step E (second time) with skipping 1, then reseted my calc with ctrl.

No I have a black screen,
:nses: + :nsme: + :nsmo: + RESET didn't work, :nsdo: + :nspl: + :nsee: +RESET too.

How can I revive my calculator :'( ?

Thanks for help! :D

Hi.

I hardly understand what happened.
The USB/TTL interface won't work with a black screen anyway.

Check that the reset button is not stuck, it can happen when pressing it.

Hi,

No, the reset button do not stuck.
So I tried to install CAS OS on my non Cas. The tutorial says it cannot be used a calculator with a hardware revision later than W.
My calc is AC. But I missed this point and followed the steps until D17.
Like in the tutorial I had to switch boot=Boot2 Diags in boot=Diags Boot2 for installing ControlX, but this didn't work.
Then I tried random stuff like redo some of the steps before in the tutorial and other random stuff, but this didn't work either.
I tried it on OS 4.5, installed 4.4, then 4.5 again.

Then like I said before I pressed RESET with :nsct:, since then I have the stupid black screen :(

Thanks for your effort :)

Thanks for your comprehensive posts.

Indeed, the how-to for HW-W+ calculators is this one :
viewtopic.php?f=57&t=21094

I don't know the side effects of flashing nBoot on a HW-W+ calculator, I just know it can't work. So the black screen may be normal.

You can still try to :
- remove and reinsert the rechargeable battery
- connect the calculator through USB

Hi,

sorry, but reinsert the battery does nothing, connect the calc with my computer let the screen flash for one second, but t doesn't get recognized by the computer. :(
I tried to send the OS to my calc with another calculator, but this didn't work as well.

Thanks for helping me :)

You can still try contacting TI-Cares if it's still under warranty :

But doesn't the warranty run out when I tell them that I tried to install CAS OS on a non-CAS calulator? ^^'

Important!

In HW-W and newer, boot1 does not init the LCD anymore. That is boot1.5's job. So if you have a corrupted boot1.5 it will look like the calculator does not even turn on, but actually you can still reflash it with RS232

Boot1 4.0 and newer also has [doc][enter][1] to reflash the Manuf partition with an RS232 sent image.
