https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/codes/se ... 0043982767

I'll jump in here as someone who has strong views about the whole gentleman's agreement between TI and the community as well as the current situation.
1. The community did not willingly reneg on it's deal to not release exploits. It appears Chroma was not honest about their intentions behind the project, and any help the community offered was in good faith as far as I know.
2. Chroma has clear motives regarding getting TI removed as an approved calculator on tests due to dislike for TI as a company.
3. From what I can tell, using TI-32 requires hardware modifications to the calculator.
4. Exam boards place an unfair burden on calculator manufacturers. TI, Casio, Numworks, etc are not developing industry standard payment devices that need to comply with rigorous security standards, they're designing tools for class. Exam boards need to stop making calculator makers instead of teachers and proctors responsible for preventing cheating. Exam mode, securely implemented, is enough. If students still insist on cheating, just maybe the problem isn't the calculator.
5. The calculator development community should not be punished for the actions of a few click-bait-y individuals or lone wolf actors with bad intentions. TI, rather than taking a sledgehammer to an issue that requires a scapel, really should be partnering with the community in incident response instead of fostering distrust and anger amongst them.
6. It is unreasonable (and an agreement doomed to fail) that TI should expect we are able to police every possible means of releasing exploits. We do the best we can, and our good faith effort should be enough.
As an aside, when i heard about this, I decided to pen a letter to TI that is currently on my website. I am not sure what effect it will have, or what I'll wind up doing with it (if anything), but ya'll are welcome to have a read, propose edits/additions, or add a signature if you agree with it.

Edit: I also had an idea.
In exchange for providing a means for us to use asm/c reliably, perhaps we could offer to conduct routine black-box audits of the device on their behalf. Bug finding, vulnerability finding, etc...yielding a report of such they can furnish to exam boards for proof of security.
This would essentially create a win-win for the community and a checkmate for TI. Let me explain.
We would be offering to TI a premium service at no cost, in exchange only for access to ez80/C restored. This would a proper audit, demonstrating true security. This offer would be made publicly. TI then has two options:
1. Accept, if they truly care about security (or the image of caring about security).
2. Decline, publicly demonstrating they are more concerned with optics than actual security.
Either way, we demonstrated our true intentions and actual care for the security of the device by even proposing this.
