I checked the github repo and it says it was only designed for TI 84 Plus and TI 84 Plus Silver Edition so maybe that's the problem. Is there any way to downgrade TI Connect CE for Chrome OS? Maybe that solution can be used to use the version that did allow transfering ASM files.

Well sure but it's still supposed to be supported (the protocol isn't actually different for file transfers), so there's something weird going on anyway.

There was no Chrome TI Connect CE that previously allowed asm transfers afaik. But it's very easy (like, one line change) to make it work.
