Exponential matrix with TI Nspire CX Cas

Message non lude farefernandez » 21 Jan 2018, 11:08

Hi,

it appears I've found something the ti nspire doesn't do :-)

I'm trying to calculate a matrix esponential. The notation goes like this:

Given
$mathjax$A=\begin{bmatrix}
0 & 1 \\
0 & 0
\end{bmatrix}$mathjax$

I'm trying to calculate:

$mathjax$e^A$mathjax$

The matrix exponential is defined like this:

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/MatrixExponential.html

Is there a way to calculate this expression with the ti nspire cx cas? It seemed so simple at first sight :p

Apparently if the document is set to "radians", then you can type e^a and it gives you a result.

The problem is, the result is numeric and it doesn't use the cas engine, which is a problem for me because I had some symbols.

See also here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/32594 ... =31#manual

Any way to do this symbolically?

With the CAS, it should work.
Try to Delvar whatever variables you have, so it will do the calculation symbolically?

Unfortunately, when evaluating something as simple as:

$mathjax$e^{\begin{bmatrix}
x & 0 \\
0 & 1
\end{bmatrix}}$mathjax$

It gives an error "Error: Invalid data type" (I've cleared all my variables just in case)

Ah, yeah, maybe it works only numerically.

Anyway, there's a built-in lib (see the righmost tab of the catalog popup) to do it symbolically: libalgcas\expmat(matrixHere)
You can re-download linalgcas if you removed it.

Thanks! It kinda works. I'm not able to do throw in symbols, but at least it gives exact results and not aproximations like the built-in e^matrix
