I got my nspire CX a few months ago, and I can't remember if I tinkered with the OS or not (I remember looking at the subreddit and this forum).
Anyway, didn't use it for a few months, let the battery run out, and now while studying for my upcoming exam it won't boot properly anymore.
I get the "Unrecognized keypad" error. It also doesn't show up in the nspire software, except when the OS is wiped.
So far I've tried this:
1. Complete reset (EE+enter+doc+on) option 4. and a clean install of OS 4.5 with both CX Student Software and Computer Link.
2. Complete reset and an attempted install of 3.1, which doesn't work because of downgrade protection.
3. Tried to open up the calc to see if it was a hardware problem.
I feel that I have installed some CAS version on it, in a wrong way and that the hard factory reset isn't removing 'all' traces, hence it not properly connecting to the PC and the clean install not working as intended.
It won't turn on, so I can't follow the instructions to Ndless, nBoot, ControlX or nLoader.
Thanks!
possibly bricked my nspire CX

Hi,
The CAS installation is just about the OS.
So since you've cleanly reinstall the OS, it shouldn't have left anything.
The hardware might be faulty too.
What's your calculator datestamp ?
It's the small code on the back, at the right of the serial number.

Re: possibly bricked my nspire CX
Thanks.
Then your calculator is using 2 separate boards, one for the screen and one for the keypad.
Since you already opened the calculator, you could open it again.
Then remove the screws to disconnect the screen board from the keypad board (they're using board-to-board connectors - you should take a picture to put back the screws in the right holes later, since there are many of them).
Clean both connectors then reconnect both boards very firmly, and strongly secure their connection with the screws.
Please tell us if it helps with the keypad detection, thanks.
