How to convert prototype TI-Nspire CAS Touchpad calculators with non-functioning keyboards into normal working Nspires

Part 1: Verification of requirements

0. Verify that your calculator is a TI-Nspire CAS Touchpad (black body and keyboard, with monochrome screen). If it is not, this tutorial is not for you, and your keyboard/touchpad problem will not be fixed by it. This tutorial does not enable you to use prototype touchpad keyboards on prototype or non-prototype calculators. I would recommend buying another keyboard.

1. Turn on the calculator. Press :nsdo: [N] [4] to open the Handheld Status screen.

2. Verify that the displayed OS version is one of:
  • 2.0.0.1188
  • 2.0.1.60
  • 2.1.0.631
  • 3.0.1.1753
  • 3.0.2.1791
  • 3.1.0.392
  • 3.2.0.1212
  • 3.2.0.1219
  • 3.2.3.1233
  • 3.6.0.546
  • 3.9.0.461
  • 3.9.0.463
If your OS version is not on this list, please reply in this thread with more information. DON'T CONTINUE THE TUTORIAL!

3. Press :nsta: until the About button is highlighted, then press :nsen:. Verify that your calculator has the Boot1 version: 1.0.1.8916. If it does not, please reply in this thread with more information. DON'T CONTINUE THE TUTORIAL!

4. Press :nses: until you return to the home screen.

Part 2: Installing appropriate OS

1. Download and install OS 3.9.0.463 from here, if it's not already installed. 3.9.0.461 will not work, only 463.

2. Press :nsta: and :nsen: appropriately to finish the setup.

Part 3: Installing Ndless

1. In the Nspire software, delete every folder and file on the calculator.

2. Download this zip file. Extract the contents of it into a folder.

3. Copy the following items from the extracted folder onto the calculator:
  • ndless (entire folder)
  • A 1 (entire folder)

4. Turn on the calculator so that the home screen is visible. Dismiss any messages about files being received by pressing :nsen:.

5. Press [T] :nsen: :nsen: so that "installer" in the folder "A 1" is opened. Press :nsct: and then [V] (not W) to complete the Ndless installation.

Part 4: Installing permanent patch

1. In the Nspire software, delete the folder "A 1" on the calculator.

2. Copy the following item from the extracted folder onto the calculator:
  • A 2 (entire folder)

3. Dismiss any messages about files being received by pressing :nsen:.

4. Press [T] :nsen: :nsen: so that "hwrevfix" in the folder "A 2" is opened.

5. If a popup appears informing you of success, press :nsen: to restart your calculator.

Your touchpad should now work!
You can delete the "ndless" and "A 2" folders now, they are unnecessary.

If you see a FATAL ERROR message (this will probably never happen):
  • Plug your calculator into a USB charger so that it will never turn off.
  • Immediately send me and critor a private message asking for help. Do not touch anything on your calculator, or attempt to undo the process, until you receive a response.

Ok.

So I suppose once installed, you can't use a ClickPad keypad anymore ? No way to hot-select this ?

By the way, DVT TouchPad keypads are different.

If I remember well, starting with OS 2.0.1, the arrows will stop working.
The difference is there are different contacts under the touchpad, when on production TouchPad keypads the touchpad is a single big key.

They're quite frequent in China.

1) no, sorry
2) why did they change that?! Having separate arrows would have been a lot better.

If the arrows don't work, please tell me.

Okay. Is your calculator EVT, or just the touchpad piece?
