Right, I wasn't sure ControlX had any part in the matter, but figured I'd post here since I did have it installed.

I wasn't able to get the maintenance menu to load with ControlX enabled; the boot combo wouldn't do anything.

Erasing the OS from the maintenance didn't work, as I mentioned; it landed on a "System Error", too. I guess that leaves me with formatting the file system. Is there any way I can retrieve my files from the calculator before doing so? I recall nLaunch had the ability to present the file system as mountable over USB; is that still a possibility?

Accessing the maintenance menu with ControlX is no different, assuming ControlX does launch a Boot2 image by default :
  • hold
    doc
    enter
    EE
  • without releasing the 3 keys, press and release reset
  • if the calculator doesn't turn back on, without releasing the 3 keys, type
    ⌂on
, 2 times in a row if necessary
  • release everything and wait

The only thing I can think of, is if the "system error" happens before the maintenance menu gets triggered.

Unfortunately, the Nlaunch download mode has never been working on the TI-Nspire CX, only the classic TI-Nspire.
Do you have alternate Boot2 images to boot from in your partitions ? Maybe you could try.

I haven't gotten around to trying to fix my newer TI-Nspire CX (P-0515V). I believe I did try booting the other Boot2 (v4.5.3.14), as well as whatever Boot1 and Boot1.5 were present, but none helped. I didn't try booting maintenance mode from the previously mentioned Boot2, however.
I guess the "System Error" occurs before booting maintenance mode with ControlX enabled, but occurs afterward with ControlX disabled? That is to say, the error occurs before maintenance mode with Boot2 v4.4.0, and afterward with Boot2 v4.5.3. Just grasping at straws.

Strangely, on my older TI-Nspire CX (P-0211A), I'm able to boot maintenance mode with ControlX enabled, and it's able to find the v4.4.0 Boot2 in the ExtendeD partition automatically when set to boot the "best Boot2" (the default).

Updated ControlX to version 5.0.4 :
archives_voir.php?id=652778

Added support for the latest OS version 4.5.4, for those who absolutely want to update as soon as possible.
But there is no Ndless support for this version, because Ndless hasn't been updated for now.

Disabled support for OS version 3.9.0, to keep the boot patches small enough to fit in Boot2 4.0.3.
If you need 3.9.0 support (although I wouldn't understand why, no Ndless for this version so 3.9.0 is among the less useful ones), just edit the Makefile and rebuild.

Seems ControlX wasn't the problem when attempting to boot maintenance mode; it seems that instead, maintenance mode would sometimes just fail to load.
After trying and failing to connect to UART via J01, I eventually just formatted the system. Lesson learned: don't charge my calculator(?)

Updated ControlX to version 5.0.5 :
archives_voir.php?id=652778

Added support for Ndless auto-install on OS version 4.5.4.
If you'd like to use OS 4.5.4, update your ndless_resources.tns file before updating ControlX to 5.0.5.

If ControlX detects OS 4.5.4, it'll try to load the Ndless 4.5.4 ressources. If the ndless_resources.tns files is present but the 4.5.4 ressources missing because the file isn't up to date, it's going to crash...

Disabled support for OS version 4.0.0, to keep the boot patches small enough to fit in Boot2 4.0.3.
If you need 4.0.0 support (although I wouldn't understand why, no Ndless for this version so it belongs to the less interesting ones), just edit the Makefile and rebuild.

Hi, Please help me!
Can you help to look in the "DIAG": I have three "CTRLX" in the Flash partitions. In your picture, only have one "CTRLX" and one "DIAGS".
How can I delete the extra two "CTRLX"?

Thanks.

Hi.

Having several ControlX images shoudn't be an issue.
Only the 1st one is going to be launched anyway.

When does the calculator reboot ?

If you didn't update the Ndless files to the ones supporting before installing OS 4.5.4, then Ndless auto installation on boot is going to crash the calculator.
In this case, you can :
  1. call the ControlX menu and reset the minimal OS version with
    5
  2. hold
    doc
    enter
    EE
while resetting the calculator to call the maintenance menu (if don't get the maintenance menu, you'll have to reperform the previous step)
  3. select
    2
    to remove the OS
  4. reinstall an older OS version
  5. update the Ndless files on your calculator
  6. reinstall OS 4.5.4
