I think there should be no problem with the touchpad or older versions of the OS. Basically I am revealing the Algebra behind the commands that have been in the OS for last several generations and TI-Basic simple global programs and one-line TI-Basic global functions.

I am using it Os 3.2.3.1233 and 3.6.0.546 for my Npsire CX and Nspire CAS CX handhelds. I have a converted clickpad to touchpad with OS 3.6.0.546 on as well. But do not use very often. On the iPad Npsire and Nspire CAS apps I am running the latest versions.

I run the OS 3.9 on my Computer Software version but have no upgraded my handhelds. I do have ndless on my one handheld so I understand the Ouch...

I just produced 33-minute high def tutorial on using the TI-Nspire with chapter 1 of my eBook, TI-Nspire Guide Algebra Fundamentals. It is available for free at the Product page. There is also a free five-minute video on producing one-line global functions.

Use with the free, interactive, two chapter sample, ebook at computerlearningservice.com. Use with TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS devices. Video shows the TI-Nspire CAS handheld emulator being used with the Guide to show how traditional solutions accompany TI-Nspire solutions. In the Guide Instructions are given for TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handhelds and TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS iPad apps. Full kindle version of Guide available at Amazon.

Just added chapter 2 and chapter 3 tutorials at Product page. Also chapters 1, 2, and 3 are now available at youtube. There is an overview video of all seven chapters at homepage of computer learning service and youtube.

There are library files and supplement file for using scientific notation over at google ti-nspire groups. Shows how to use scientific program with global one-line function using solve command and units, CAS model required for solve and units but not necessary for scientific notation program. Link to video on scientific notation program is also there.

Get the guide at amazon.
