On PVT CAS+, the J04/JTAG connector is not soldered.
You'll need either EVT/DVT CAS+ which are very rare, or to solder it yourself.

Turns out that that calculator is not a prototype at all! The eBay seller just copied the title of the listing from another listing of the cas+ because he doesn't know English very well and doesn't know the difference. It's running 1.6.4295 and there's no square on the boot screen. He says he's going to delete the word prototype from the listing

Too bad my only TI-Nspire Color is half boken.
Since the ASIC boots on the external NOR, it would have been interesting to dump and check the ASIC internal NOR.

It's a shame you don't have 3.6.0.521 for non CAS. It's close enough to 546 I could probably get ndless 3.6 to work well enough to dump it.

(Did you look for the exploit yet?)

You could also try to deactivate the external nor. I think there must be some sort of resistor that tells it to boot externally. That or if you disconnected its Vcc

Not me, I already have a CX and I'd like to spend my $130 on something else.
(It's really not a terrible price even for a normal CX especially since you can make it a CAS)
I asked the seller about versions but he hasn't answered yet.
