I'm trying to uderstand how to expand an expression such as


to the less concise:


I'm using a ti n-spire cx cas. Apparently, the expand function won't expand this kind of expression.

This is not expansion but factorisation !
Just do : factor(1/x-1) and you'll get what you want.

If you want get the same (common) denominator without factorisation, you can also do : comdenom(1/x-1)
