Comme chaque année, TI organise un évènement d'immense envergure, pour enseignants (principalement) du monde entier : la conférence internationale T³.
Sont au rendez-vous plusieurs centaines de sessions sur les solutions éducatives de TI, de l'utilisation du logiciel SmartView à la programmation avancée.

They feature several hundreds sessions about the TI Education technology, from using the SmartView software, to advanced programming.

Et .... comme la dernière fois à Chicago, j'ai été invité par TI ! Je serai donc à votre service en newsant pendant chacun de ces 3 jours à propos des nombreux évènements qui nous attendent ! En fait, je vais même y parler (comme notre ami Christopher "KermM" Mitchell deCemetech !), et ça sera à propos de techniques avancées de programmation Lua sur TI-Npsire, durant le "SLUG Fest" ( SLUG : Super Lua User Group ), avec John Powers (TI), Steve Arnold (CompassTech)... (Pas besoin de le cacher, c'est très excitant tout ca, et merci à TI )

Je crée ce topic pour épargner Adriweb, qui tarde bien d'ailleurs, alors que plusieurs visiteurs sur TI-Planet trépignent en attendant des nouvelles

Pour ceux qui ne le savent pas encore, T3 (Teachers Teaching with Technology) est une conférence sur l"éducation organisée par TI chaque année.
Comme l'année dernière, Adriweb y a été invité, et il est donc là bas en train d'apprendre le Lua à des profs venus du monde entier

Persalteas avait commencé pour moi, déja, avec quelques photos issues de Cemetech, par KermM, mais voici maintenant un résumé du 1er jour de la conférence T^3 2013 à Philadelphie !
( Il se fait tard pour moi, et donc je ne vais pas rentrer dans les détails, je suppose que les photos vous intéresse le plus de toute facon , mais n'hésitez pas à poser des questions si besoin ! - Shaun, Adrien, and I attended a panel with Mayim Bialik and two teachers, Ms. Stephanie Ogden and Ms. Sheri Abel. A selection of the Q&A highlights:

Q: How have the Apps changed how you teach math in the classroom?
A: Surprisingly, not much. Helps facilitate the lessons already being taught

Q: How has the technology changed the level of engagement in the classroom?
A: Students have many more of the "aha!" moments when you know that the concept has clicked for the students. Students seemed to have many of the same experiences with the TI-84 Plus series and the TI-Nspire series, where they say, "I get it!". In this case the main advantage is that the learning curve to overcome for the technology itself is much lower.

Q: Can you highlight specific activities or skills the Apps for iPad have helped?
A: "Domain and Range", and "Domain and Range 2", have given the students the ability to drag the functions and see what changes.
A: Presenting all sorts of problems more visually with the Apps give students a more intuitive grasp of the concepts across the board.
A: It forces the students to understand a lot of the algebraic structure behind the problems; they learn about the mat hby putting it into the Apps' templates properly.

Q: Can you talk more about how the integration into the classroom looks?
A: In my class, they pick up an iPad before class and drop it off at the end of class, as well as a handheld. Why both? Because I prefer to use the handheld for Navigator-based evaluations. Plus they'll need the handheld skills for standardized tests, where they can't use the iPad.
A: In my class, they have the textbook as an eBook on a second iPad, looking at the two side-by-side. They are able to use many of the Navigator features on the iPad, so I don't know if they'll need the handheld except for standarized tests in the future. I'm hoping because the handheld and the iPad are similar, they'll be able to make the transition seamlessly.

Q: What challenges did you encounter?
A: Getting files to the iPads via Dropbox proved challenging; they kept forgetting their credentials. As far as the math skills, there were few challenges.

Q: How much benefit do you see if just the teacher uses the iPad for instruction, and not the students?
A: We had something like that experience in our classroom, because we didn't keep the iPads after the pilot ended. I now have my own iPad, while the students have the handheld, and it is still helpful as a teaching tool.
A: My school did something similar; you get many of the same benefits without the additional cost.

Q: You touched on the engagement of the students with the software. How has the engagement between students and teachers changed?
A: They can communicate in different ways and more ways with the students; doesn't seem to distracted them much.

Q: If we have the TI-84 Plus now, should we go to the TI-Nspire handhelds, or the iPads?
A: You can indeed use just a single iPad to drive the instruction, as long as you're willing to let the students occasionally use your iPad to help drive the lesson, as they will have a good deal of intuition into using it. They'll then have a leg up when/if they need to transition to the handhelds.
A: The TI-84 Plus is still a very rich environment, and if you can integrate the two together, you'll continue to make the classroom more interactive and more exciting.

Q: Have you been using the calculator mainly as a player for activities, or as a graphing calculator?
A: In my classroom, we tend to do both. For conceptual understanding, I want them to be able to visualize the problems that they're working with in class.
A: I would say that I have used it in both ways, but that I mainly use it for sending and receiving documents to and from students. I can send out assignments directly through the iPads, then back through email.

Fin d'après-midi

On a discuté avec des personnes d'Orion, et on a pu testé l'Orion TI-84 Plus. C'est vraiment intéressant, par exemple, quand on appuie 3 fois sur la touche [2nd], on active(/désactive?) le mode où chaque touche pressée est entendue. Pour les graphs, on "entend" en même temps que ca dessine, plus ou moins aigu selon les valeurs de la courbe.

On a pu aussi parlé avec Peter Balyta, Dale Philbrick, Pat Milheron, John Powers, Melendy Lovett, etc. etc.

Soirée
Super discussions avec Christopher Mitchell, Shaun McFall et Mari Hancock (TI PR) sur plein de truc en général, TI, sciences, etc.

Comme vous avez pu l'apprendre dans mes news précédentes, j'ai la chance d'avoir pu assister à la conférence T3 2013 à Philadelphie, et voici donc un résumé du dernier jour (Dimanche 10 Mars), ou plutôt la matinée, puisque ca s'arrêtait la.

"Closing Session"
- Revue en générale de la conférence par Melendy Lovett puis Gayle Mujica
- Photo montage des photos twittés avec le tag #NspiredAtT3
- Vidéo montage avec des fonctions dessinées sur la nspire avec des photos de personnes présentes à la conférence, en train d'imiter les fonctions
- Speech par Nick Lombardo, élève de Terminale au Connecticut ; il avait gagné le concours "Bring Mayim Back to School", et a pu invité Mayim sur scène, après avoir parlé de son enthousiasme envers les calculatrices TI. Il a précisé, comme beaucoup ici sur TI-Planet , il emportait souvent avec lui sa calculatrice quand il s'en va quelque part !
- Mayim Bialik a donné le véritable discours de fin. Elle a rappelé son intérêt envers la promotion d'un accès égal à une bonne éducation, en particulier pour les STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths).
- Quelques Q&A après ca, sur la série Big Bang Theory, et l'EdTech et STEM. Je quote KermM directement:

Mayim opened up a question-and-answer session. She was asked what Sheldon is like, if The Big Bang Theory will address Sheldon's apparent autism-spectrum disorders (short answer: probably not). Where do you see your life going in 20 years? "Of course I'd like to move out of the TV world and become a movie actress, but it's hard to make that change". Plans on hiking a large mountain this summer. How do you get females to take a more proactive role in their math & science education in the classroom? Tough question, hard to answer, the social dynamics of teenage life certainly come into play. "I think this is one of the main wonderful things that we hope comes out of this relationship with TI, and to hopefully put a friendly, familiar face to associate with this sort of technology. I largely speak to the media, blog posts, pictures with the TI-Nspire; these are the sort of things we are trying to get out there." "In terms of what TI has in store for me, and especially for females, we'll see what is in store for me. There's a lot to tackle. There's a lot more we can do."

Le site TechPoweredMath, déjà mentionné plusieurs fois sur TI-Planet, se fait l'écho de rumeurs sur la disponibilité de la Casio Classpad 400 aux examens standardisés SAT et AP aux USA.
Lucas Allen a discuté avec des représentants d'un distributeur de calculatrices lors du T³ de la semaine dernière (je vous renvoie aux news de cette semaine pour d'autres infos sur le T³, grâce à Adriweb), qui lui ont indiqué tenir de représentants de Casio que les ClassPad 400 devraient être disponibles aux examens SAT et AP, ce qui nécessite un changement des règles puisque les plate-formes disposant d'un touch screen ont toujours été interdites dans ces examens-là.
Davantage d'infos seront disponibles dans les prochains mois. Si ces rumeurs s'avèrent vraies, les chiffres de vente des Classpad 400 devraient augmenter.

A titre personnel, je reste plus que sceptique sur les capacités de calcul de la Classpad 400, étant données que les caractéristiques techniques de ce modèle restent inférieures à celles des Nspire, ce qui n'est pourtant pas peu dire en 2013, tant la Nspire dispose de composants dépassés... Casio ne nous a pas habitués à des algorithmes de CAS qui rivalisent avec ceux des TI (qui, elles-mêmes, rougissent sur certains points par rapport aux HP), et utiliser une technologie encore plus lourdement obsolète et limitée que celle des Nspire n'est pas la meilleure façon d'arriver à faire mieux que TI et HP ^^
C'est le moment, pour TI, d'appuyer sur l'accélérateur de la technique, en passant à une génération suivante qui offrira plus de puissance et de stockage pour la même consommation électrique (même si elle risque de coûter une fraction de dollar de plus, et donc réduire légèrement leurs grosses marges). La fameuse CX Premium, peut-être ?

On remarquera même au milieu de tout ça une TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition et donc la 2ème calculatrice de ce type en Europe après la mienne!
