###################### # # #--- PUYO PUYO 83 ---# # # ###################### # By Kevin Horowitz # ###################### ############## # Gameplay # ############## Unlike traditional falling block games, the main challenge is not the actual clearing of of the blocks. No, you have to think many moves ahead and setup devastating chain reactions. These reactions called "Combos" will save you from those pesky incoming garbage blocks that get in your way. MORE THAN 4 BLOCKS MUST BE ELIMINATED TO START PREVENTING GARBAGE! So, combos are not just a way to score big points, they become a necessity, especially in the higher levels that send more and more garbage blocks. You can view the in-game tutorial for more information about playing the game. One thing I didn't mention is the meaning of those black bars next to the "Next Piece" area. In single player mode, the left one gives you an idea of how many garbage blocks will fall next time the timer runs out. The right side is the actual timer. Since there are only 16 pixels here, the bars are both log scales so don't freak out if it looks like you aren't removing garbage after a combo if the bar is high up. You are, its just relatively unnoticeable. Same applies if the timer does not appear to move. In 2 player mode, the right bar is how much garbage is about to be sent to your opponent and the left bar is how much garbage you will receive from your opponent. If you do a combo right before you receive incoming garbage, you can cancel some or all of it out and even send the excess back to your opponent if your combo is larger. ############## # Controls # ############## GAME IS PLAYED GAMEPAD STYLE!!! Hold the calculator sideways as if you were holding a video game controller. The screen should be on the right and your left thumb should rest nicely over the "3" button. This is your direction pad and all the keys you need. Please let me know if you find any. If you are playing the 2 player mode and you do obnoxious things like disconnecting the cable while still playing or somehow sending non-game data to the calculator while in-game, it is certainly possible to temporarily freeze the calculator. In this case, simply unplug the cable, or pug it back in, and the calculator will unfreeze. This is not a bug. Also, if anyone knows how to work the USB port in assembly, that would be really awesome if you could contact me. Currently, only the linkport works for 2 player games. ############# # Contact # ############# You can email me about, bugs, suggestions, critique, anything.
