Program: Super Mario Land 2 (Mario Level) Author: Andy Kay E-mail: andrewrocks2003@yahoo.com Version: v1.3 System: TI-83 ------------------------------------------------ I DESCRIPTION: As with the first levelset, there are now two versions, one for each version of Super Mario. If you played the first Super Mario Land 2, and couldn't get through a zone because the version didn't correspond, the problem has been solved. Both levelsets take advantage of each versions' gameplay styles. And you can still travel to Strawberry Hills, Blue Blue Lake, and then to Thwomp Valley, Cloud World, and more as you continue to look for Princess Peach. Includes a walkthrough of every single zone of both versions, tough spots, as well as a storyline and zone names. ------------------------------------------------ II INSTALLATION: 1) Have Super Mario 1.2 or 2.0, and the proper shell(s) to run it. 2) Depending on the Super Mario version you have, send smland2 v2.0.8xp for version 2.0, or smland2 v1.2.8xp for version 1.2. It is highly recommended that you do NOT send the wrong version to your calculator, or there may be glitches. 3) Run Super Mario and choose The Super Mario Land II. ------------------------------------------------ III STORY After exploring Bowser's first castle, Mario has realized that Princess Peach isn't there! He must now follow Bowser to his other castle, where he will take on Bowser again and search for the princess. ------------------------------------------------ IV GAME HELP ZONE 1: Strawberry Hills Level Type: Hills There's a power-up right at the beginning. Soon, you'll reach a hill, where you can go over, then back under to get an extra life. Then there is a hill, under it a bridge made of collapsible blocks! (in version 1.2, the blocks have been changed to ground) Simply go straight across them without stopping to hit a power-up block. Soon after are bullet cannons, and piranhas. I you have Mario 2.0, you can duck. It's easier. Next are several koopas. Hit one of their shell to the right for another power-up. Lastly are some Goombas and the Finish Bar. ZONE 2: Vanilla Dome Level Type: Dungeon At the beginning, there are 3 pipes. Then there's a koopa on a platform with 5 ? blocks over it. The last one has a power-up. Then jump the fireball, lure the Thwomp, then go through as it goes back up, and then yet more fireballs. Then the passage splits into 3 passages. The bottom two both have a coin each, and then fireballs, but the top has 4 coins, power-up, and a chance to pass over the fireballs. At the end is another life, and a power-up (high-jump off the paratroopa to get it if its a flower). ZONE 3: Blue Blue Docks Level Type: Shallow Water This level type is the same as Sherbert River from The Super Mario Land I. Remember that you can jump off the water by holding down 2nd (2.0 only). First, a power-up. Then trees and enemies. Then, a Bullet Cannon and another power-up. On the following platforms, watch out for bullets. Then, a tree, two bullet cannons, a Goomba, and a 3rd power-up. Then there are the collapsing blocks (changed to a tree in Mario 1.2), moving platforms, and then the Finish Bar. But wait! Go past the platform to get a lot of coins, followed by another Finish Bar. ZONE 4: Blue Blue Lake Level Type: Underwater This level is different from others, Hold down 2nd to move up slowly in the water, release it to fall slowly down. And in areas with no ground, don't fall all the way to the bottom. (you cannot swim in 1.2, just walk. Also, all fish have been changed to Goombas) First are two fish, and a power-up ? block. Oh, and you can also bounce off the water surface in this level, too, although you might miss a few extra lives or so (2.0 only). You can also kill fish with fireballs, or by falling ON TOP of them. Soon, you'll come to a zone with three bullet cannons. Or, staying true to Super Mario World, we'll call then torpedos. They're difficult to get past, so it might be wiser to jump across the water surface. Okay, next area: you can foolishly jump on top of the wood here, or, stay underwater for a couple of goodies. Example: a power-up and two extra lives, followed by a torpedo launcher. Next area: you can go under the hill here by holding down 2nd the entire way for...another xtra life. And, follow the dark passage after (tiny Mario only) for a power-up. After that is the Finish Bar. ZONE 5: Twilight Woods Level Type: Nighttime Forest The trees in both versions have been slightly changed from the original. Chances are, you don't see many levels like this. Okay, first a power-up block. Then, you'll see another block that seems impossible to reach. It isn't. There's an invisible platform under it that you can stand on (no joke). Shoot a koopa shell down there to see for yourself. However, the platform does not cover the trunk of the tree. Then, high-jump the koopa to go over the bullet bills. Or, if you miss, you can high-jump off of a bullet! Then, some music notes (be quick, the bullets might hit you), and then a large tree and a power-up. Then, hit the 2nd block near the fireballs for another power-up. If it's a fire flower, jump off the next tree to reach it. Then, a music block and the bar. ZONE 6: Thwomp Valley Level Type: Hills Yes, more Thwomps than you'll ever need to see. First, get the power-up, you'll need it. For the first two Thwomps, use the lure-and-run technique. For the third, lure it and let it disappear down the pit. For the next three, simply RUN under them without jumping. There's a power-up between the next two, but it's safer to ignore it. For the next four-- which are above a collapsing bridge (bridge is solid in 1.2), simply run across it, and watch the Thwomps fall down after you! Next two--lure then, then jump over them (you will probably get shrunk). Right after, there is a power up. Now, you can either go the safe way, in the tunnel, or jump through the Thwomp up there. I am going to ask you to jump through the Thwomp and lose the power-up. Why? There are two more power-ups and an extra life up there! Next are two Thwomps and some Bullet Cannons. Simply run under all of them. Then the Finish Bar, which you can go past for some more stuff... ZONE 7: Cloud World Level Type: Cloud Wow, what a world! Since clouds are made of water, you'll gradually sink through them, so I suggest you hold down the 2nd key the entire level (In the 1.2 version, all clouds are now solid blocks, so don't worry about sinking. Finally an advantage over 2.0! Ha!). After a while, you'll come across 3 music notes and a power-up ? box. Continue across, and make your way past the platforms and to the Finish Bar. ZONE 8: Bowser's Castle Level Type: Dungeon Start: an extra life ? box right at the beginning. Okay, see the Thwomps and the bridge. It's the same puzzle from Thwomp Valley. But if you're big Mario, you'll probably be shrunk. (Bridge is solid in 1.2) In the next part, there is shallow water at the bottom. You can jump off it, and get a power-up between the two rock-trees. Next, a large fish tank. Take the secret passage at the end for another power-up. it the block to jump back up through. Then, three piranhas. Jump on the block at the end, and high-jump the paratroopas to reach another power-up. Jump to the other platform at the top to reach yet another power-up, as well as skipping two fireballs. Then, you will go outside and face...Bowser! This time, you must lead him to the place to defeat him. Slowly progress farther, letting Bowser follow you. DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH the left side of the screen, or he will give up chase and you'll have to start all over! Let him destroy the blocks at the end by jumping on them, until he finally falls through. And that's the end! ------------------------------------------------ V FAQ Q: How do I do a high jump? A: Simply hold down 2nd when jumping off of an enemy or music note. Q: There's an area I can't access. Why? A: Almost all areas can be accessed. Some are only small enough for tiny Mario, so beginners will still be able to recover from being shrunk. Q: It won't recognize the level. A: Like all SM levels, try archiving it, or unarchiving it. ------------------------------------------------ VI Other Info Strawberry Hills was at first Mushroom Land. Cloud World was originally the 5th level, and Thwomp Valley was 7th. I have played this levelset as well, both versions), and have beaten them many times, so if questions or comments, e-mail me (my address is at the top).
