Download the other worlds too! ------------------------------------------------ II INSTALLATION: 1) Have Super Mario 1.2 or 2.0, and the proper shell(s) to run it. 2) Depending on the Super Mario version you have, send smland4 v2.0.8xp for version 2.0, or smland4 v1.2.8xp for version 1.2. It is highly recommended that you do NOT send the wrong version to your calculator, or there may be glitches. 3) Run Super Mario and choose The Super Mario Land IV. ------------------------------------------------ III STORY After searching three castles, Peach is still nowhere to be found. Can Mario reach her in the fourth castle? ------------------------------------------------ IV GAME HELP ZONE 1: Goomba Town Level Type: Block After this level, you'll never underestimate Goombas again! You'll find that this fourth levelset is much harder than the other three, so here goes: Goombas will literally come at you from every direction. At one point, you'll come across 3 Goombas trapped between blocks, and ? blocks above each of them. Hold down 2nd as you try to hi-jump off the Goombas and hit the blocks. The third has a power-up. Later, you'll come across Piranhas with, yes, Goombas, which will fall onto you if you don't jump. The next area has Goombas falling off blocks, and then the Finish Bar. ZONE 2: The Upside-Down Forest Level Type: Upside-Down Forest The Sunken Forest of the 3rd levelset was the first of two unique forests. This is the 2nd. You'll never see another Mario level like this. All the trees grow upside down, with the ground at the top. Naturally, when it was turned upside-down, the Goombas fell onto the trees. The big thing for this level is to take your time, or you will die. Either way, there's a 1-Up Mushroom right at the start. At the music blocks, get to the lower ones as fast as possible, or Bullet Bill will get you. Then hi-jump off the koopas to proceed. Next area: look at this: upside-down giant blocks! Proceed onto the platforms while jumping to dodge the bullets. It's good to stay near the top (for me, anyway). Hi-jump the koopas and paratroopas in the next section, and hit the Finish Bar. Note: In version 1.2, many of the koopas have been changed to paratroopas. ZONE 3: Koopa Beach Level Type: Shallow Water This level if full of koopas, koopas, more koopas, and a lot of interesting sculptures. Partway through, you'll have to chase the Super Mushroom before it falls into the water. Soon, you'll come to a sculpture like a cross, with a paratroopa in front of you. You must hi-jump off of it, or commit suicide. Once onto the giant sculpture, have a look at it. It's an exact replica of a Bullet Cannon! Two sculptures later, you'll find one that looks like: a 1-Up Mushroom! The Finish Bar is just ahead. ZONE 4A: Sea of Spikes Level Type: Underwater Note: Level 4A is in the 2.0 version. If you are playing the 1.2 version, skip this and go to level 4B. I wasn't kidding when I named this level!! Soon after the start is a 1-Up Mushroom. You'll need it. After that, there are some parts in this level where you must hold down 2nd to stick to the ceiling. Go past the "minefield" and you'll come to three platforms and two seemingly impossible passages. Simply hop on a platform when it exits. The bottom passage has a Super Mushroom, but you must time your exit perfectly or lose it. After that is another passage. Stay in one spot by tapping 2nd, and hop on the platform. Be sure to jump off or it'll run you into more spikes. Tread water, then hop onto the platforms below as they LEAVE. Jump and run across the collapsing bridge, weave between the spikes there, go past the piranhas, and you'll be at the exit! ZONE 4B: Sea of Flame Level Type: Underwater This level is brand-new, and nothing like level 4A, mainly because the spikes can cause your calc to crash in Mario 1.2, and you cannot swim, either. Just avoid all the fireballs. And there's a secret Finish Bar past the first one, and some extra lives as well. ZONE 5: DK Hills Level Type: Hills The only enemies here are piranhas, but none are in pipes. You'll encounter a secret passage, that leads to a Super Mushroom. Just avoid the piranhas, and you'll do fine. At the swamp, you can simply bounce across the surface. (In version 1.2, there are blocks above the water, since you cannot swim). ZONE 6: Mad Bridge Level Type: Mad (actually, Collapsible) Note: In version 1.2, this level is not collapsible. Some enemies are different, but the general block layout is almost exactly the same. Another well-named level. Except for one Bullet Cannon and the spikes that kill you (none in 1.2), there are no areas that will not collapse under your weight. The 1-Up Mushroom at the beginning is possible to get. It's a good idea to hold down 2nd throughout the level. When you come to the multi-platformed area where Goombas fall on you, jump run (not jump) right through. When you see the paratroopas, jump on the platform right before them and continue across. You can pause on top of the Bullet Cannon for a rest stop. Then, hi-jump off the koopas until you reach the end. ZONE 7: Star World Level Type: Star World This world has NO power-ups, NO 1-Up Mushrooms, and certainly NO Princess Peach. It does have lots of koopas, through. As a general rule, don't shoot their shells forward unless you know that they won't bounce back into you! When you reach the fireball, perform a running jump. At the music notes, do a hi-jump. At the area with the platforms and sets of 3 fireballs, be careful. Each life you lose is one less you get to use in Bowser's Castle. ZONE 8: Bowser's Castle Level Type: Dungeon First area: GET THAT MUSHROOM!! Next area, fireballs. After that, 10 Goombas. After that, piranhas and a Bullet Cannon. Lure the Thwomp into the hole to get across. Then jump onto the platforms as you did in the Sea of Spikes. Then, carefully go across the platforms above the pit, while avoiding Bullets and Fireballs. Then, hi-jump the koopas to avoid the spikes, and finally, run across the collapsible bridge. Last enemy area: A big black pit with fireballs and white blocks on top. If you played Fire Mountain from The Super Mario Land 3, you'll know that there are invisible platforms at ground level, right under the white blocks. So lure the Thwomp down, and quickly go across the Fireballs. Next, a bridge. But where's Bowser? Continue onward, to where you'll find him. You must do battle with him by making him hit the blocks and fall through, while avoiding the Fireballs on either side. Can you do it? Don't get mad if you can't: this is one of the 5 hardest levels in the series! ------------------------------------------------ V FAQ Q: How do I do a high jump? A: Simply hold down 2nd when jumping off of an enemy or music note. Q: There's an area I can't access. Why? A: Almost all areas can be accessed. Some are only small enough for tiny Mario, so beginners will still be able to recover from being shrunk. Q: It won't recognize the level. A: Like all SM levels, try archiving it, or unarchiving it. ------------------------------------------------ VI Useless Info Goomba Town used to be Puzzle Town. The Upside-Down Forest used to be the Lava Dungeon. Koopa Beach was once Koopa Shore. The Sea of Spikes was once Koopa Bay. DK Hills was DK Mountain. Mad Bridge used to be Nightmare Bridge (it fit, didn't it?) Star World was once Cheese Bridge. You know where the bridge is in Bowser's Castle? Well, you used to have to have him chase you across the spikes and platforms to the battle area, but this proved impossible, since he stopped chasing you if he touched the left side of the screen, so he was moved. In both versions, in Bowser's castle, just after the Thwomp and two platforms, look down at the blocks. One platform is stuck there! There's a story to it: It was stuck there since the original version, I thought it would be best to just leave it there. In Mario 1.2, Bowser's castle, after the koopa on the bridge, there are three platforms. The top one is inaccessible. It's there just for fun, since it's there in the 2.0 version. I have played this levelset as well, and have beaten it many times (seriously), so if you have any questions or comments, e-mail me (my address is at the top).
